ATFC GIVES BACK
This is indeed a busy time of the year for asking and giving here at the Club. Please know that we understand that
the requests can be overwhelming and that you all are asked to contribute
by many organizations. Whatever you can do is appreciated, but we appreciate you even if you are unable to
contribute.
Troops - Thanks to Board member Adam Bogle for organizing a most successful drive to create holiday care
packages for the troops. Twenty-five club members and some of their families joined together to pack 50 boxes full
of wonderful items donated by you. This was a fine group of elves who swiftly assembled snacks, books, CD's
(Ruben donated several hundred from his collection!), books on tape, socks and a myriad of other useful items.
Close to 500 lbs. of goodies are on their way to
Afghanistan and Iraq.
Shoes & Coats - Kevin Flynn, who is working in Afghanistan, wrote poignantly of the needs of the Afghan people he
meets: they are often without shoes and warm clothes. We will ship items to Kevin on December 2nd. If you would
like to contribute towards mailing, you can do so at the front desk.
The Giving Tree - Patty Knapp is once again organizing the
Giving Tree for local families in need. Please choose an ornament from the tree which will give information about
the needs of a specific child or family; then bring unwrapped presents to the Club by Friday, December 18th.
Wrapping party will be
upstairs at the Club on the 19th.
ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors voted unanimously at its last meeting to instate an increase of $2/month per membership in
all categories beginning Jan. 1, 2010. Members who choose to pay their dues forward for any number of months will
be able to do so at current dues rates if they pay in 2009. If you have questions, please see any member of the
Board or Alan or Jo.
MANAGERS’ NOTE
Recently several people have asked about the state of the club. We’d like to share with you what we feel is a very
positive report.
While it is true that the club is still in a fairly weak economic position, in almost all respects we are doing better now
than we were a year ago. We will finish this year with a small surplus, with an uptick in membership numbers, with
more savings ahead from the tennis court lighting change and with a strong ongoing contribution from the front desk
volunteers.
One of the most important events of the year was the first annual auction in January. The $23,000 we netted at the
2009 auction gave us just enough to get through the year with that small surplus. If we can equal or better the 2009
results at our upcoming January 2010 auction we will be poised to see more improvement in the coming year.
Our plan for 2010 is to stay very conservative in our spending, to continue looking for operational savings, to work
toward some membership growth and to still find ways to enhance the club experience.

PROS CORNER
Question: When pros play at the US Open and other major events, do they play with numbered tennis balls?
Answer: YES!
AUCTION UPDATE—SUPER SATURDAY
JANUARY 30, 2010!
Tilly and crew are excited about Super Saturday! Save the date of January 30th and invite your friends and
neighbors to join us for this evening of fun. Dave Hodges will be emcee and Rhonda will be auctioneer. ATFC
member Milt Bloombaum and his group Kalmiopsis will be performing; plus we've some great surprises for you! $30
per ticket includes a prime rib dinner (plus a great vegetarian offering) by Tom Beam, wine, entertainment and fun.
Such a deal!! Last year we had 230 attendees and are hoping for even more this time around.
Now it's time to buy some raffle tickets - these are great holiday presents and stocking stuffers. Coralie and Donna
will be selling them outside Market of Choice on Thursday, December 3 - if you've got a minute pop by and give
them some support - they'll be there mid-day. Tickets are always available at the front desk.
And....if you haven't brought in your bottle of wine to share for the Raffle 1st prize, please do so when you can. We
need 99 bottles of fine ($15+) wine! Check out the progress on the chart on the laundry room door....Thanks to
Sharon and Ed for organizing and promoting the raffle.

MS. MARTINA MANNERSTILOVA
Dear MMM: Someone gave me the evil eye when I walked onto Court 2 the other day. You'd think it was MY fault
that he double-faulted as I pranced onto the court in my neon yellow unitard whilst singing, "Wild Thing." What
gives? How long do you think I should wait for an apology?
Love, The Hipster
Dear (Not-So-) Hipster: Do you know that you have a tennis guru playing at your very own fine little club? That
would be Dave Hodges - I would suggest that Dave give you a few pointers about the etiquette of this game. He
knows that tennis players are sensitive souls who have developed certain "rules" about behavior. It is considered
tres, tres gauche to interrupt a point being played - even if the clock strikes 3:45 and it is officially YOUR court!
One must wait quietly behind the door for a point to be completed; only then should the prancing begin.
I was asked to remind all you tennis players that there is a ten-minute grace period before a reserved court will be
given away. Should you discover that your milk will take an extra minute to foam at Noble's, please give the Club a
call to advise that you will be late - in that case, no one will give away your court.
May you all have lovely holidays! Merrily, MMM
Club closes @ 4p on Dec. 24th & Dec. 31st. Closed on Christmas & New Years.
