a most exciting match over Katy B. and Eric.  Bonnie Holstein and Nancy Savage were the victors in the Women's

AUCTION UPDATE
Super Saturday is now our official auction name.  It's hard for us to believe that a year ago the auction idea hadn't
even been hatched!  Now is the time to get on board for this incredibly fun and important event.

We've a GREAT  pre-auction item:
Dick & Mary Mastain have generously donated the accommodations at their lovely cottage on Granite Street, just
above the Plaza.   Valid only January through mid- March of 2010.   This is a most special spot, featuring 2
bedrooms.  If you will have friends or family in town and need some extra space, this is a perfect spot!  (Maybe
you'll want some folks to come for Super Saturday!)   See Jo or Alan if you are interested.

Donations needed:   Now's the time to start thinking about what you might like to donate.  What shops do you
frequent?  Please consider asking the shop-keepers for gift certificates.   We will give them free advertising and
encourage our members to support their businesses.   Any kind of service items:  haircuts,
massages, dry-cleaning certificates are very attractive items.   Trips and dinners are very popular - do you have  a
time share?

Just in:  a wonderful Paella dinner for 10 has been donated.

Please see Jo or Tilly for contribution forms.  Thank you!!

MS. MARTINA MANNERSTILOVA
Dear MMM,
I am learning a lot about some of my fellow members, but I wish I weren't.....What do you do about cell phones in
the gym, locker room and on the courts?  Did Chrissy answer the phone while you were playing at Wimbledon?
Thank you,
Still blushing

Dear Blushing,

First, I want to tell you and your ATFC friends how much my friend, Dennis Ralston, enjoyed his time with you in
August!

Okay, you might remember that when Chrissy and I were playing our very best matches, all phones had cords, so
phone calls weren't really an issue.  We also didn't try to distract each other with ridiculous outfits.  What do you call
that awful shade of yellow that is currently so popular?  People, it is so NOT cool to make or receive calls at ATFC.
Your clubmates are there to exercise and play tennis in a quiet setting (well, okay, I HAVE heard about Leo's and
Rox's voices...).  So, JUST SAY NO!
Affectionately, MMM
p.s.  I am hoping to make it to Super Saturday.

SPOTLIGHT ON FRONT DESK VOLUNTEERS
Ms. (Doctor) October is Sally Jones!  Sally, a 5th-generation Oregonian, is currently reading Croation Slovania in
preparation for a trip she and husband, Ben Benjamin, will be taking in 2010.   Besides Ben, the way to Sally's heart
is fresh-filled ravioli at Pasta Piatti. Yum!!

If Sally could be a different critter, she would be a frog.  In a future life, she will return as a 6 foot tall high-kicking
dancer.  (Hmm, frogs and dancers both have great legs!) You go, girl!

When asked what she REALLY thinks about Leo, Sally replied, " I can't put it into words..."

Okay, the amazing Dr. Jones is involved in many Ashland organizations.  She cares deeply about the town and is
one ATFC'er who walks the talk.  A docent at the Schneider Museum for many years, Sally worries about the cuts
made in music and the arts at SOU.  A former Professor of Health and Education at the University, she also is
concerned about how the economy is impacting those departments.

Take a minute to talk to Sally.  She's interesting, interested AND a fabulous tennis player!!    Thanks for all you do,
Sally!!

SHADOW MOUNTAIN TRIP
Andy is organizing a getaway to Shadow Mountain in Palm
Desert, CA.  The dates are December 10-13.  $495 per person includes lots of tennis, fine accommodations at this
first-class resort and lots of fun. Check out the flyer at the Tennis Board!Invite your non-ATFC buddies to join us for
what will be a fabulous time!
